About the location
Belstead House is a short walk away from the bustle of the High Street in Aldeburgh which is a beautiful seaside town to have a holiday in. It is a 5-minute walk to the High Street with lots on offer including several independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Beyond the High Street lies the shingle beach and sea. Many restaurants are offering a variety of foods, and there is a strong emphasis on local produce. Try the Lighthouse Restaurant for fish or The Brasserie at the White Lion. Of course, you may want to experience fish and chips which seem to taste so much better eaten on the beach!
Things to do in Aldeburgh, Sullfok
Beyond the fun of a traditional seaside holiday, there are lots of other opportunities to offer both within Aldeburgh and further afield. The surrounding countryside, which is part of the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty provides lots of opportunities for walking and exploring the area both on foot or by bicycle. If you fancy having a go at kite surfing or want a more sedate way to explore some of the waterways in the area, see what Airborne Kite Surf can offer. If you are lucky, you may see some seals on the mud banks of the River Alde while out paddleboarding or kayaking. Thorpeness is a lovely place for younger guests to get out on the water and explore the enchanting world of Peter Pan at the Meare.
Further along the coast, Orford has a large keep dating from the 12th Century which provides spectacular views from the ramparts back towards Aldeburgh and south to Shingle Street and Bawdsey. There are also several Martello towers along the coast which were part of the defences put in place to protect the country against a possible Napoleonic invasion which is worth investigating.
