Elegant Dog-Friendly Barley Cottage located in Gillamoor Village

Barley Cottage is an elegant and spacious 2-bedroom luxury cottage in Gillamoor, a sleepy little village in the North York Moors complete with a 17th Century village pub. With country-chic interiors and a beautiful large garden, it’s the perfect country retreat for discerning couples and families alike.

The stylish accommodation is set over two floors. Downstairs features a generous open-plan sitting room and dining area. Handsome leather armchairs, a wood burning stove and soft throws combine to create a cosy and welcoming ambience. All of your logs are provided for you so you can keep toasty warm in here. The sitting room also features a Plasma TV, DVD Player and Wi-Fi is available too. There’s also a host of books and magazines to get stuck into if you fancy some off-line entertainment.

The living room leads onto the pleasant dining area and cottage-style kitchen at the rear. The spacious dining room table has ample room for four and is a very pleasant spot to dine whatever the time of day. The fully equipped kitchen comes complete with a dishwasher, fridge-freezer and microwave and there are laundry facilities right next door.

Both bedrooms are upstairs, a King-size double room and a very sweet twin bedroom opposite, and both enjoy wonderful views of the garden and North York Moors landscape beyond. The family bathroom sits in between the two with a shower over the bath.

Barley Cottage has a peaceful courtyard to the front of the cottage, but the real star of the show is the large garden to the rear. A generous manicured lawn stretches away to mature trees at the bottom with a horses paddock right next door. It’s an idyllic country garden and the perfect spot to enjoy lunch or dinner in the warmer months. A BBQ is also provided for your use.

Local Area

Barley Cottage has an enviable location. Sitting on the edge of Gillamoor, an attractive North York Moors village, the local village pub is just a few minutes’ walk away. A few miles in the other direction takes you to the pretty town of Kirbymoorside and then on to vibrant and attractive Yorkshire market towns like Pickering and Helmsley; both of which have an abundance of good restaurants, tea-rooms and independent shops.

Beyond the village lies the North York Moors. A landscape like no other, it’s a place of gently rolling hills of heather, ancient woodlands and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. If you want to get away from it all take a trip to the top of the high central moorlands. The famous Blakey Ridge affords some of the best views in the country in our opinion and is just a few minutes’ drive from the cottage. And if walking is your thing, you are surrounded on all sides by some truly stunning routes.

Barley Cottage is also close to the North Yorkshire Coast, with the gothic town of Whitby and the picture-postcard fisherman village of Robin Hood’s Bay less than 30 minutes’ drive. Take a day trip here and experiences the sights sounds and tastes of Yorkshire’s coastline. Fish ‘n Chips at the Magpie Café is a must!

Hutton-le-Hole, quite possibly the most beautiful village in the North York Moors, is just around the corner and you’re also close to Castle Howard and York, so lots of choice for day trips.
