We just love the whole Alice in Wonderland entrance to Dashwood. It promises something special and wow it delivers. This stunning brick cottage sits behind a beautiful Georgian manor house in the centre of a charming Yorkshire Wold’s village. The cottage has a lovely aspect looking out onto towards the gardens and orchard of the manor house.
Step inside to discover a stylish open plan living space with the kitchen to your right and the living area to your left. The handcrafted kitchen is really well proportioned and comes complete with everything you would expect of a cottage of this quality. There is a dishwasher, large fridge-freezer and a range cooker with gas hob. There’s also a washing machine here too and a handy WC which has underfloor heating.
The handsome dining table nestles comfortably by the stairs. Seating up to 4 people very comfortably, it’s a very pleasant spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Make your way on over to the spacious living area. Plenty of room for you to spread out and relax. Fire up the wood burner and choose the latest movie from SKY on the LED TV. Or just put your feet up and indulge in a glossy magazine with a nice cup of tea. Wi-Fi is included too if you want to catch up with your world.
Both bedrooms in this lovely cottage near York are set upstairs. The master bedroom is a fabulous room with double aspect views across the gardens and grounds. There is a stunning double height arched window to enjoy and a beautiful cast iron King-size bed too. Dashwood is set in the village of Holtby, a charming little village in the Yorkshire Wolds less than 15 minutes from Central York. You have the best of both worlds here, the delightful small village atmosphere of old Yorkshire twinned with the vibrant city of York.
The jewel in North Yorkshire’s crown, we think York is one of the best visitor destinations in England. But don’t just take our word for it. Voted ‘Best UK City’ by the Telegraph’s travel section in 2008, York is a favourite amongst even the most seasoned of travellers. Make your way around its medieval cobbled streets and discover its many shops, cafes and restaurants. Lunch at The Star Inn the City down by the river is a must.
Holtby is an ideal base from which to explore all that this area has to offer. Still a relatively quiet location in terms of tourism, the Yorkshire Wolds are a range of beautiful low rolling hills rising from the river Humber and sweeping along to the stunning cliffs at Flamborough Head, peppered with countless pretty villages and towns. A favourite with David Hockney, it inspired many of his greatest works including ‘Bigger Trees Near Warter in 2007’ – his largest ever work.
The gentle nature of the countryside here makes it an excellent location for walking and cycling.
The Wolds are home to many historical homes and religious sites, as well as one of Yorkshire’s largest lavender gardens. The Yorkshire Coast, North York Moors and Yorkshire Coast are also all within easy driving distance from here and make a great day trip.
