Introducing Stable Cottage, a beautiful 2-bedroom luxury holiday cottage nestling within one of the prettiest corners of the North York Moors National Park. A delicious blend of character, style and elegance, it’s the perfect country retreat for couples and small families…

As the name suggests, Stable Cottage was once the stable block for the local farmhouse. We love the original stable doors which have been lovingly restored, the exposed beams and stone walls, the underfloor heating throughout and the chunky solid feel. It’s a period property which has been given a fantastic 21st Century makeover.

Step inside Stable Cottage and you’ll discover a luxury cottage which is surprisingly spacious. Natural light floods in and gives a bright, airy feel. The kitchen is fully stocked to 5 Star requirements and includes everything you would expect of a cottage at this standard. There is a dishwasher and washer-dryer and children’s crockery/cutlery too. If you haven’t had time to get to the shops before reaching Stable Cottage, you’ll arrive to a fantastic welcome hamper to get you started with fresh bread, biscuits, eggs, and a bottle of wine among your essentials.

The kitchen leads on to the open plan sitting room and dining area. A dramatic double-height room with a feature stone wall and timeless furniture. Settle down on the armchair with a good book or see what’s on the movie channel that night. There are lots of extras to keep you entertained including the large LCD TV with Satellite channels and Wi-Fi.

On through to the bedrooms, both of which are on the same floor. There is a double and a king-size bedroom available, both of which boast heated flooring, stone walls, LCD TVs and crisp white bed linen. The shower room features a large walk-in shower and complimentary toiletries.

Outside the cottage, you’ll find a large lawned garden and stone patio. Garden furniture is provided so you can enjoy eating al fresco on those balmy summer days. The cottage is set in a very quiet hamlet so if you want to enjoy some quality time in the countryside, this is the cottage for you.
Local Area

Stable Cottage is set in a pretty little hamlet (complete with a local pub) in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. This particular Dale is famed for its daffodil walk when each Spring the river banks come alive with the yellow flowers, said to be planted originally by the monks who settled on this land many hundreds of years ago.

Lesser known than its Yorkshire cousin the Dales, the North York Moors are literally on your doorstep. This glorious expanse of the heather-clad countryside is simply stunning, and it’s well worth taking some time to explore it properly. The Moors cover an area of almost 600 square miles and like the Dales, you can easily find yourself miles from anywhere relatively quickly. But there is something distinctly more civilised and less remote about the Moors. There is a sense of wilderness, particularly on top of the high central moorlands, but its cast in comforting soft focus.

This is serious walking country, so if you enjoy donning the old walking boots and striking out into the countryside this cottage has the perfect location. No need to get in the car at all, there are some truly breathtaking walking trails from the door. And of course the same is true for cycling. There are also countless picture-card villages to explore within a few miles including the chocolate box Hutton-le-Hole, Rosedale Abbey, Danby and Goathland to name just a few.

Close by you also have the fantastic town of Helmsley. At the heart of the town square is a statue of Lord Feversham, a distant ancestor of the current Lord who resides in Duncombe Park. This stunning baroque mansion sits on the outskirts of town and is a good choice for an afternoon’s sightseeing. If you want to indulge some more architectural desires, the equally grand Nunnington Hall a few miles south-east of the town is another grand abode worth a peek.

Helmsley is a foodies heaven, packed with exquisite tea rooms, cafés and on the pulse organic delis, It’s also surrounded by some of the best gastropubs in the UK – be sure not to miss the Star Inn at Harome, excellent food and a lovely setting…. Tucked alongside these culinary delights are lots of unique shops, galleries and antique dealers, easily enough to build up an appetite for lunch.

The neighbouring town of Pickering is similar in many ways and is host to its own delightful set of shops, cafes and restaurants. A few miles further on takes you to Thornton-Le-Dale – a very pretty North York Moors village with thatched houses and a sleepy little brook. Stop for some ice-cream here and remind yourself how nice life in the slow lane feels like.

You’re also close to Castle Howard, York and the Yorkshire coast, so lots of choice for day trips.
