As the name suggests, Willougby’s Loft is a handsome, charming and hopelessly romantic cottage. This gorgeous one-bedroom bolthole is set in a pretty village just outside York and is ideal for couples looking to explore this vibrant historic city. With its fabulous interiors and beautiful location, it’s also rather perfect for honeymoons too!
Set within a recently converted building on the grounds of a stunning manor house, Willoughby’s Loft is a peaceful retreat designed for two. The layout is upside down, with a spacious master bedroom on the ground floor and the living accommodation upstairs.
Make your way in via the entrance hall and step into a bright contemporary bedroom. This generous room boasts warm oak floor boards and a striking king-size 4 poster bed. Patio doors lead out onto a private sun-filled patio which looks directly towards the walled gardens of this period house. Wake up early one morning, throw open the doors and let the bird’s dawn chorus drift softly into the room…
The en suite bathroom in this spacious room is equally impressive. A generous wet room with a large stand-in shower, monsoon shower head and heated floors. We love the sleek modern design in here, the perfect place to freshen up every day.
Let’s move upstairs to discover the large living area, a light-filled space with stunning views down the garden from the French doors. There’s a cosy lounge area with a comfy leather sofa to cuddle up on. Settle down in the evenings with a movie on the LCD Smart TV which also comes equipped with Satellite channels. There’s Wi-Fi provided too if you want to catch up with friends and relatives online.
The kitchen and dining area are also up here. The immaculate bespoke kitchen boasts chunky wooden doors, a shiny marble worktop and a stylish Smeg fridge-freezer. You’ll find all mod cons included and plenty of cooking equipment and crockery if you’re a bit of a foodie. Rustle up something special and enjoy a romantic meal for two as you plan the next day’s activities.
Outside Willoughby’s Loft and the cottage really lives up to its name. Settle down on the completely private patio and enjoy a lazy lunch al fresco, with only the sound of birds to disturb you. The extensive grounds of the main house are available for your use and include a large lawned garden, and orchard to explore. There are also rare-breed pigs and chickens to discover…
We think Willougby’s Loft is a little slice of holiday heaven in Yorkshire…
Willoughby’s Loft is set in the village of Holtby, a charming little village in the Yorkshire Wolds less than 15 minutes from Central York. You have the best of both worlds here, the delightful small village atmosphere of old Yorkshire twinned with the vibrant city of York.
The jewel in North Yorkshire’s crown, we think York is one of the best visitor destinations in England. But don’t just take our word for it. Voted ‘Best UK City’ by the Telegraph’s travel section in 2008, York is a favourite amongst even the most seasoned of travellers. Make your way around its medieval cobbled streets and discover its many shops, cafes and restaurants. Lunch at The Star Inn the City down by the river is a must.
Holtby is an ideal base from which to explore all that this area has to offer. Still a relatively quiet location in terms of tourism, the Yorkshire Wolds are a range of beautiful low rolling hills rising from the river Humber and sweeping along to the stunning cliffs at Flamborough Head, peppered with countless pretty villages and towns. A favourite with David Hockney, it inspired many of his greatest works including ‘Bigger Trees Near Warter in 2007’ – his largest ever work.
The gentle nature of the countryside here makes it an excellent location for walking and cycling.
The Wolds are also home to many historical homes and religious sites, as well as one of Yorkshire’s largest lavender gardens. The Yorkshire Coast, North York Moors and Yorkshire Coast are also all within easy driving distance from here and make a great day trip.
