If your dog consumes Vicks Vaporub, you should take your dog to the vet right away. Although, It’s not very common for dogs to eat a lot of Vicks Vaporub because it smells so potent to a dog. The smell is so strong that the dog is likely to stay away from it.

However, we humans may have accidentally applied it or not know of its damaging effects. 

Applying it to the skin’s surface can be absorbed into the dog’s body, thus causing these reactions.

Potentially, this product could stop a male dog from smelling a female dog’s heat. However, it is not recommended that you do this because the product has harmful ingredients for dogs. These toxic ingredients could cause skin irritations, diarrhoea, and nausea in your female dog.

It would help if you never used this practice to stop male dogs during her season. It would be best if you didn’t take her out if you are concerned or only do so when it’s quiet.

A female is on heat twice a year and usually lasts from two weeks to four weeks, depending on the dog’s breed, size and age.


There are products made specifically for dogs that will help them stop chewing or biting. Do not ever use Vick’s VapoRub on your dog. It is toxic and smells too strong, making your dog stressed out. If your dog is in the same room, it is also dangerous to use it in a humidifier or air purifier. Breathing in these toxic substances can damage your dog’s health.
