All dogs are special in their own way. However, the Siberian Huskies are incredibly special. Their unique charm shines above the rest! Here you can discover what makes these dogs so different.

One thing for sure that you will find out is that it’s not just skin deep. These dogs have been helping and assisting us humans for many years.

Below are ten reasons why the Siberian Huskies are so special.

1. Beautiful

Siberian Huskies are beautiful dogs. They have an unforgettable look when you pass them on the street. Siberian Huskies are famous for their intelligent and alert expression. They have triangular ears that stand up and gorgeous almond-shaped eyes. Their body structure is exceptionally balanced for endurance, speed, and power.

Even when the Siberian Husky dog breed is mixed to make a hybrid breed, their appearance is much more noticeable and stronger. Take, for instance, the Siberian Husky mixed with a Corgi is referred to as a Horgski or a Horgi. See the image below; you can always tell one of the parents was a Siberian Husky.

2. Communication

The special form of communication that Siberian Huskies have with us is incredible. These dogs don’t often bark; instead, they communicate with us by howling. It can be quite complex to work out why a Siberian Husky is howling, which can cause a sight problem for dog owners of Siberian Huskies.

Siberian Huskies usually howl to communicate something to their owners. It could be that they are feeling a certain way or are bored. If you can figure out what they are trying to say, you will be an excellent owner and reap the rewards even more.

3. Just Too Friendly

Siberian Huskies are pretty bad regarding guarding. They struggle since they are one of the friendliest dogs. Siberian Husky generally gets excited when they meet strangers. They wag their tails and greet them with enthusiasm. However, the communication between these dogs and humans is one of the greatest. Even though they may not bite the legs of an intruder, they will certainly alert the whole household of a stranger within, one they would like to show off, play and share with the rest of the family.

4. Outgoing

The Siberian Husky dog breed is a highly outgoing dog. They love to explore the outdoors and be in new situations and locations. They would be out running about all day if they could. Sofa chilling is much lower down on their list of fun. That’s why sometimes it can be difficult to calm a Siberian Husky. But with patience and persistence, you can effectively calm your Husky down.

5. Special Double Coat

The gorgeous coat of a Siberian Husky isn’t on a dog’s body just for looks. It’s so special that you should never shave a Siberian Huskies coat. Shaving their coat can create health problems for this dog breed.

The Husky is a double-coated breed of dog. This means that they have two layers of fur on their body. The first layer is usually shorter and sits close to the skin. The hairs of this layer are fluffy and delicate. This layer traps air and creates insulation during the winter months.

The next layer is the topcoat which is made with coarser hairs that create a barrier around the skin. It protects the dogs from insects and UV rays.

The Siberian Husky sheds their topcoat and undercoat depending on the fluctuating temperature. This seasonal shedding also helps the dogs maintain their body temperature.

6. Special Family Bond

The bond between humans and Siberian Huskies is unlike any other dog breed. They are very good at following directions and being part of a family. Siberian Huskies were bred to work with and be around people, which is why these dogs make excellent family dogs.

7. Striking Eye Colours

One of the things that make Siberian Huskies special is that some of them have beautiful ice-blue eyes. Not all Siberian Huskies have these coloured eyes, but many do. Because they have fewer melanin pigments in the eye, their eyes will stay blue. It’s also not uncommon for these dogs to have bi-coloured eyes, where one eye colour differs. Another eye type is parti-eyes, whereas one eye is two colours. These Parti-eyed colour eyes also are common among Huskies.

8. Transport

The Siberian Huskies were different from any other dog at the time. Many years ago, the Chukchi tribe made use of them to transport things and them around the settlements. They were so special to the Chukchi people of Northern Siberia that they relied on these dogs to survive.

9. Warmth

The Chukchi tribespeople used Siberian Huskies as extra warm blankets and huddled together at night with the whole family to keep warm. Northern Siberia is so cold that it can reach about −20 °C (−4 °F) in January.

10. Webbed Feet

Siberian Huskies have webbed feet, which helps them to run on ice and snow. Their feet are different from most other dogs because they have special light webbing between their toes. It’s not the standard webbing but rather a delicate web that gives them a good grip on the ground, which won’t slide, perfect for pulling those sledges.

In Films

Many movies have featured Siberian Huskies, which has only increased their popularity. Some popular examples include Snow Dogs, Eight Below, Snow Buddies, Kayla, Sled Dog Souldiers, and Chilly Dogs.

Snow Dogs is my favourite film starring Siberian Huskies, so if you haven’t watched it, you must.

You can learn more about the Siberian Husky here. I have written a timeline about the history of the breed with dates.

Chosen Mascots

Many Universities and colleges have also chosen Huskies as mascots, like the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County or Michigan Institute of Technology.

Why are Siberian Huskies so special?

Siberian Huskies are considered special dogs because of their temperament and close bond with their families. The structure of their body and the thickness of their coat helps them in ice and snow conditions. Communication is unique compared to most other dog breeds; they have a special howl instead of only barking.

Why are huskies so friendly?

Huskies are friendly because they were bred to be companions of humans and working dogs. They are also, in general, very social animals and enjoy being around people.

Huskies’ ears stand up to help them hear better and to try to understand their surroundings more.

If you’re looking for a unique breed of dog, then the Siberian Husky is perfect. These dogs are known for their friendly and outgoing personalities, beautiful double-layered coats, and striking eye colours. Siberian Huskies make great pets and are perfect for active families. If you’re considering adding a Siberian Husky to your family, do your research first. These dogs require plenty of exercises and can be quite challenging to train. But if you’re up for the challenge, the Siberian Husky will be a loyal and loving companion.
